About the project

This website was created to help locate active and potential wildfires mainly in Lebanon. The fire locations come from two satellite monitoring systems: EU SAT (from EUMETSAT in Europe) and NASA SAT (from NASA's FIRMS service). The map updates regularly to highlight where fires are detected in a 24 hours frame, giving citizens, researchers, and local authorities timely information about wildfire activity.

In addition, the system is connected to an SMS alert function that automatically sends fire location details and related information to the local authorities.

How to read the legend

EU SAT shows fire Severity and Certainty; NASA SAT shows Confidence level.

How to read the legend

EU SAT shows fire Severity and Certainty; NASA SAT shows Confidence level.

  • EU SAT Severity: minor → moderate → severe → extreme.
  • EU SAT Certainty: low / nominal / high (confidence in the detection).
  • NASA SAT Confidence: low, nominal, high.

Markers fade and shrink with age (last 48h)
🌡️ Heatmap Color = Fire Age:
🟨 Yellow = Old fires (24-48h)
🟧 Orange = Medium age (6-12h)
🟥 Red = New fires (0-2h)
Blob size = Fire intensity (FRP/Severity)
